File Management
Overview
Pilot has robust file management capabilities that support two distinct types of files, each serving different purposes in your case workflow.
File Types
- Scans. Scans are 3D scans of the patient's mouth or completed designs that form the foundation of your digital workflow. Each case can have multiple scan versions associated with it, providing flexibility for design iterations and revisions. Each scan version is comprised of multiple individual files. Each file within a scan can have a specific type that you can configure in the system settings to match your workflow requirements. You have full control over scan management through the individual case view, where you can change file names and types, as well as add and remove files as needed for each case.
- Attachments. Attachments are non-scan files that support your case workflow, including images, PDFs, and other documents. These files provide supplementary information, reference materials, or documentation that complement the primary scan data.
File Routing with Scans
Scans play an important role in automated file routing throughout your workflow. Pilot allows you to route specific scan types to specific CAD servers by utilizing the "Case Type" case field. When creating a case, you can select the appropriate case type and then filter cases in the cases list by that type to efficiently download their files for processing.
Workstation File Type Configuration
Every workstation has a configuration setting for the default scan file types that the workstation works with in its production process. When you have this configuration set up, Pilot will automatically select the appropriate scan files for download from the Technicians' View interface. This automation is particularly useful for specialized workstations like milling and 3D printing stations that work with specific file types and formats.
File Upload Methods
Pilot provides two convenient ways to upload files to cases:
-
Individual Case Upload. From the individual case page, you can upload files directly to the case by clicking on the "Add Files" button in either the "Scans" or "Attachments" sections. This method is ideal for single-case file management and provides immediate access to uploaded content.
-
Bulk File Upload. From the Bulk Tools section, you can upload files to multiple cases at once by selecting the cases you want to update and using the "Upload Files" button. This method significantly reduces administrative time when you need to add similar files to multiple cases simultaneously.
